THE CLASSGUARD TOOLKIT

Built for the
school day.

Practical controls for IT. Useful visibility for teachers. Space for students to learn.

01 / WEB FILTERING

Let the lesson through.

A useful starting list of 2,252 educational and support domains includes everyday classroom tools such as IXL, i-Ready, CommonLit, and ReadWorks.

02 / CLASSROOM VISIBILITY

See where help is needed.

See every connected student’s screen together in one live grid, with a compact layout for larger classes. Screens play automatically. Sharing is required for active participation.

How sharing works ↗
03 / IT CONTROL

Your lesson. Your websites.

Set the websites students can access for each class period. Choose ixl.com for math, change the list as you teach, and restore the school policy automatically when the period ends.

    Review the toolkit

Inspect the extension, educational domains, managed-policy schema, and deployment requirements.

  2. 02

    Configure a test classroom

Load the extension on test devices. For screen sharing, run the included pairing server with HTTPS and a private staff key.

  3. 03

    Evaluate with a teacher

Test lesson access, approved screen sharing, student stop controls, and your school’s network.

CLEAR BY DESIGN

Visibility, with
clear boundaries.

Required for monitored classes

Students must establish screen sharing to enter the active class. Canceling, stopping, or losing sharing ends their class session. Chrome’s capture prompt is still required.

No screen recording feature

Live video uses WebRTC. The included pairing server keeps temporary classroom metadata in memory.

Review before deployment

ClassGuard is an evaluation-stage toolkit. Your district should review its configuration, security, and privacy requirements.

DISTRICT QUESTIONS

Good questions.
Straight answers.

What to know before your first pilot.

What is included in the evaluation kit?

A working Chrome Manifest V3 extension, the filtering dashboard, a student blocked page, teacher and student sharing pages, a Node pairing server, a district CSV roster and enrollment-code exporter, and setup documentation. The education list and managed-policy examples are also included.

How does teacher screen viewing work?

The teacher creates a monitored class using a private staff key. Enrolled members of a selected roster group are admitted automatically; open classes require individual approval. Students must establish sharing within 60 seconds using Chrome’s native picker. They become active only after the teacher receives their screen. Canceling, stopping, or losing the stream ends their class session; they must rejoin and share again to participate. This is a ClassGuard session requirement, not a device lock or a bypass of Chrome’s screen prompt.

Can a teacher make IXL the only allowed website?

Yes. When starting a class, set its length and enable Only allow listed websites, then add ixl.com. The installed student extension blocks other HTTP/HTTPS web pages and redirects already-open off-list tabs. Broad education and .edu permissions do not bypass the class list; district blocks still apply. Teachers can edit the list during class. It stays in place after a student leaves sharing, and ends when the teacher ends or releases the restriction, or at the scheduled period end. Browser-only student previews cannot enter restricted classes. Policy changes and early ending reach detached sharing pages through a 30-second extension poll.

How do we add 1,000+ students?

Import a district roster CSV with up to 20,000 students. Preview and validate all rows, add or update students by ID, and download personal enrollment codes in one file. Use your real class groups, or let the import create sections of up to 30. Teachers select a group to admit its enrolled students automatically; sharing remains required. Extension installation is a separate managed Chrome rollout step.

Read the bulk enrollment guide ↗
What does our IT team need to set up?

Chrome or a Chromebook for the extension, plus an HTTPS-hosted Node 20+ pairing server for screen sharing outside localhost. Your network may need district-configured STUN/TURN services. The kit has setup instructions; extension distribution and school-network testing remain your IT team’s responsibility.

Download screen-sharing setup notes ↗
Does it have school SSO or central fleet management?

CSV roster import and personal enrollment codes are included. School SSO, verified email identity, SIS synchronization, and central fleet policy synchronization are not included. Teacher access uses a private staff key. Roster classes use registered names; open classes use self-reported names. Chrome managed-policy configuration is supported.

Can we review the list and product before committing?

Yes. Download the source and setup guides, inspect the education allowlist, and test with a small classroom. This site does not list paid plans or collect payment. Review the source and discuss your district’s requirements before considering a broader rollout.
